The dream car of my grandfather's youth was the Triumph TR7, a beauty sitting with a "for sale" sign for the duration of my childhood. Referencing Byzantine paintings of sacred individuals in history and shapes used in Roman Catholic rose-windows, I designed a halo with elements from the hubcap design of the Triumph. The car functions as a symbol for the values of the culture that surrounded my grandfather in his youth, which carried over to impress upon my taste for cars. I think about the way his beliefs shaped mine, as I reflect on the time I spent in a church that was his and his parent’s. The car and religion had a different value to my identity and the world around me as I grow older, and their power could not be inherited the way it was initially passed on. All materials used were found scrap, and some materials were formed through traditional forging and piercing, while some were cut through a plasma CNC router. The union of old and new processes delights the conceptual intentions.
